Introduction

Welcome to the webpage of the radiation group of the University of Malaya Physics Department

The group was formed in the early 1980’s when two young physics lecturers, Rosli H. Mahat and Yusoff M. Amin, teamed up to formed the radiation research group. They started off with two research projects on radiation dosimetry using thermoluminescence and solid state nuclear track detector (SSNTD).

Starting with a lab space of about 20 m2, it has expanded to 3 separate labs of more then 200 m2 equiped with various facilities. At any one time for the past decade, it has about 5 to 10 workers in the lab consisting of researchers, technical staff and postgraduate students. It also has about 10 undergraduates doing their final year project every semester. Today the group is active in research in various area of radiation and its application in various fields. So far, it has produce two PhD’s and 5 MSc’s. It has also produced almost a hundred papers.

The group also runs the radiation teaching laboratory of the physics department and the annual radiation safety course for the university staff.
