September 2009: Professor Saadah Abdul Rahman is appointed Deputy Dean (Research), Faculty of Science.

September 2009: Congratulations to Mr. Amir Shah Sigara Abu, Mr. Mohd Khairi Mohd Nazir and Ms. Norlela Mohamed Shahardin who have been promoted to Assistant Science Officers.

August 2009: Dr Reza Rahbari Ghaahnavyah joins the Department as a lecturer. Before this, he was serving in the Faculty of Engineering. His field is materials science.

August 2009: Dr Huang Nay Ming joins the Department as a lecturer. His field is experimental solid state physics.

August 2009: Dr Aaliya Rahman Khan, a Pakistan national, dan Dr Daefalla M Tawafi, a Libyan national, join the Department as lecturers.

July 2009: Dr Zurina Osman is promoted to Associate Professor. Congratulations!

July 2009: Dr Rozalina Zakaria returns as a lecturer after completing her PhD on laser optics at the University of Hull, UK.

June 2009: Dr Chien Su Foong joins the Department as a Professor. He specializes in the mathematical aspects of communication.

June 2009: Dr Abdulrazak Akhonov, an Uzbekistan national, joins the Department as a lecturer.

May 2009: Negeri Sembilan Falak Convebtion 2009, organised by the Sapce Physics Laboratory, Physics Department and the Mufti's Department, Negeri Sembilan government, was held on 7-10th May 2009 at SMA Syeikh Hj. Mohd Said, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. This convention was inaugurated by the Yang diPertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan. Various activities and lectures were carried out during the convention.

April 2009: Professor Wan Ahmad Tajuddin Wan Abdullah is appointed Deputy Dean (Higher Degrees), Faculty of Science.

March 2009: Dr Woon Kai Lin joined the Department as a lecturer. His doctoral research was about Organic Light-Emitting Diodes (OLED) at the University of Hull, UK.

January 2009: Members of the Department have won 5 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals in the Research, Invention and Innovation Expo of Universiti Malaya.

January 2009: Datuk Profesor Muhamad Rasat Muhamad ends his period as Deputy Vice Chancellor. Appointred chair of the Advanced Fundamental Research cluster, Universiti Malaya.
