This website is dedicated to the Chess League of the Physics Club in the Physics Department, University of Malaya. The Physics Department staff, supportive and academic, are members of the Physics Club.

The Physics Club was started in 2005 by Dr Zamri Zainal Abidin with a vision to help promote togetherness among departmental staff. The Chess Club is the first activity of the Physics Club. It encourages staff to gather around in the Department's tea room every friday for academic or other light social activities, but only when no official work is in hand. The tea room is also the venue of the Chess League matches.

The inaugural Chess League tournament in 2006 attracted 7 participants including the lecturers, supportive staff and even postgraduates. The players played each other once in a league and the standings of the final league position determined the seedings for the successive knock-out stage. The winner was presented with a trophy. The worthy first champion was En. Amir Shah Sigara Bin Abu. Very well done to him.

The new season of the Chess League will resume in early 2007. Any inquires, especially regarding participation for the new season, please contact Dr Zamri Zainal Abidin (03-79674098; zzaa@um.edu.my). Any staff or postgraduate students are encouraged to join the new Chess League season.
